President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered a thorough investigation into the Kakamega Primary School Stampede.
Speaking through the State House social media handle, the head of state wished the injured students quick recovery.
“The President wished the injured children quick recovery and ordered a thorough investigation to establish the cause of the unfortunate incident.”
The president orders second those of ODM leader Raila Odinga who called for an immediate probe into the incident.
13 students were confirmed to have died when the accident happened but the number rose to 19 as confirmed by Boni Khalwale.
The Monday evening incident happened when the students were rushing out of the classrooms.
Some are reported to have fallen from the third floor of the school.
39 of the students suffered injuries while 20 were treated at the county’s referral hospital before they were discharged.
Visiting the students was Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who left without addressing the media.
