President Uhuru Kenyatta has on Saturday taken over from Rwanda President Paul Kagame as the new chairperson of East Africa Community (EAC).
In a virtual ceremony done virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Peter Mutuku Mathuki and Justice Kathurima M’Inoti were also sworn in as the Secretary-general and Justoce of EAC respectively.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta has taken over as the new Chairperson of the East African Community (EAC). Kenya’s Dr Peter Mutuku Mathuki and Justice Kathurima M’Inoti sworn-in as Secretary General of the EAC and Judge of the East African Court of Justice respectively.” Said State House.
In his first speech as EAC chairperson, President Uhuru swore that he will not spare any efforts in realization of the community’s agenda since its corporation 20 years ago.
“The President assured that he will spare no effort towards the realization of the shared aspirations that gave rebirth to the community 20 years ago.
President Kenyatta spoke when he addressed the 21st Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State held virtually due to Covid_19 after taking over the chairmanship from Rwanda’s President” Said State House
