If appointed, Benitez will be the fifth manager to lead Everton and will take over from Carlo Ancelotti who made a return to Real Madrid following the resignation of Zinedine Zidane.

Back in England, Benitez managed Liverpool for six years leading them to a Champions League and FA Cup victory.

He then coached Chelsea as an interim manager during the 2012/2013 season where he bagged a Europa League tittle before joining Newcastle for more than three years.

He has since become jobless after quitting Dalian Pro in China. Other clubs that he has coached include Inter Milan, Valencia Napoli and Real Madrid. Back in Italy, he won Coppa Italia.

Everton has already contact eight candidates including former Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo and former manager David Moyes.
