Charles Kinuthia a Kenyan living in Rwanda has been sentenced to two years in jail for allegedly conning people.
Many people in Rwanda are said to have paid to join a fitness program scheduled to happen at the Kigali Convention Center.
Some of the victims recount how they had paid about Ksh 412 to attend the event with the promise of earning Ksh 20,000 upon completion.
Things, however, did not turn out as promised as many turns up only to be greeted by an empty event.
According to the suspect’s lawyer, people misinterpreted the event when they were told they would earn Ksh 20,000.
The cash was a translation of the value one will receive upon attending the conference planned to happen on 25th June 2019.
In addition to that, the lawyer said it was canceled by authorities who saw the huge number of attendants streaming in.
He has however vowed to approach the Kenyan government to intervene to rescue his client.
Three others implicated in the case were two Kenyan women and a Rwandese man who were all acquitted of their charges.
