Safaricom unveils new Mpesa logo inspired by Eliud

Olympic and World Champion Eliud Kipchoge has inspired Safaricom’s new Mpesa logo as unveiled on Wednesday.

Eliud Kipchoge who is arrived in Vienna on Tuesday is expected to beat his own record in less than two hours.

The INEOS 1:59 challenge will not only portray anything is impossible, for Safaricom it is in honor of the world champion ahead of the October 12th event.

“Our new logo will be the five letters spelling Kipchoge’s first name, “Eliud” and the numbers “1:59” to denote the challenge”

Speaking during the unveiling of the new Mpesa logo, Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph said as an ambassador the runner will be able to take their brand to many people.

The telecom giants, however, revealed the logo will be a temporary one for the next seven days.

Kenyans have been called upon to send messages of encouragement to Eliud Kipchoge through a free SMS line 159. The messages will be aired live on TV.

“We are dedicating a free SMS line where you can send your message to the number 159, and during the race, your message will be broadcast live on Kenyan TV alongside the challenge”

In addition to that, customers will be rewarded bundles to watch the world champion on platforms such as Youtube.

“On the day of the challenge, starting 8 AM through to 4 PM, you can dial *159# to redeem a free YouTube bundle to enable you to stream the race.”
