Safety concerns force SGR trains to make unscheduled stop

The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) was on Monday forced to make an unscheduled stop following safety concerns.

The concerns between Mtito Andei and Kibwezi stations forced Kenya Railways personnel to address the issue before normal services resumed.

“We have made an unscheduled stop on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service Express Service this afternoon for a safety check on the section between Mtito Andei and Kibwezi stations. Our personnel are addressing the situation and the journey will resume shortly.

We would like to assure our passengers that their safety is of paramount importance to us and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.” Said Kenya Railways.

According to, the afternoon train was stopped midway after it was confirmed that the railway line had been vandalized by unknown people and could lead to safety threats if left unattended.

Kenya Railways personnel quickly addressed the issue before normal services resumed with both trains expected in Nairobi and Mombasa at 9:00 pm and 9:30 pm respectively.

“We have completed the safety check and normal services have resumed. As stated earlier, your safety is of paramount importance to us We thank you for your patience and once again sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

The trains will now arrive in Nairobi at 9:00 pm and in Mombasa at 9:30 pm.” Said Kenya Railways
