Meru Senator Murungi Kathuri has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the Senate bagging another win for Kenya Kwanza.
The announcement was confirmed by the newly elected Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi who had been fronted as Kenya Kwanza candidate for the position.
Before the Thursday morning exercise, Steward Madzayo of Azimio la Umoja withdrew his nomination for the same position giving the Meru Senator an advantage.

Fellow Azimio candidate Kalonzo Musyoka withdrew his name from the Speaker’s position paving the way for Kenya Kwanza to bag the seat.
“Kilifi Sen. Madzayo Stewart Mwachiru has withdrawn from the race of Deputy Speaker of the Senate, therefor Meru Sen. Kathuri Murungi has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the Senate,” said the Senate of Kenya
Next on the line is the voting of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly where Moses Wetangula who resigned as a Senator will battle it out with former Speaker Kenneth Marende.
