Senior al-Qaeda leader killed in a US drone attack

Pentagon has on Friday confirmed that a US drone attack in Syria has taken the life of a senior al-qaeda leader.

“A US airstrike today in northwest Syria killed senior al-Qaeda leader Abdul Hamid al-Matar,” Said Major John Rigsbee a Central Command spokesman

The news comes days after a US base located south of Syria used to fight the Islamic State group was attacked by unknown people.

Speaking after the attack, Rigsbee noted that the strike was well conducted using a a MQ-9 aircraft that no casualties were reported. He continued by confirming that attack will disrupt the terrorist group and unable to carry out any attacks soon.

In September, Pentagon also confirmed the death of Salim Abu-Ahmad another al-qaeda leader who was killed following an airstrike northwest area of Syria. Salim is reported to have been responsible for planning, funding and approving attacks by the terror group.

According to the US, Syria has been used by al-qaeda as a safe haven for them to plan coordinate and execute some of the deadliest attacks in the world affecting both the US and partners.
