Seven former Nakumatt Supermarket employees have come together and open their very own supermarket in Kisumu County.
Lemigo Holdings Ltd which is now the parent of Lemigo Dala Supermarket located on the busy Kondele-Kibos road in kisumu.
Isaiah Abidha,Stephen Oguttu,Ezekiel Masangila,Philip Ligalaba,benson Olang’,Nicodemus Odeny Nyaure and Mr Manasseh Odhiambo raised a capital of 20 million to the retailer whose slogan is “Home of Dignity,Value and Service.”
The seven who are managers of the new company,were Nakumatt managers of Kisumu,Kisii and TRM. Between November and December last year they managed to register Lemigo Holdings Ltd with “Lemigo” being initials of their names.
Speaking to Business Daily,they said they have been Nakumatt employees for more than 20 years where they grew from tellers,cash handlers,worked in procurement to managers in branches.
Although kondele,the site of the new supermarket has been referred as a hotspot of political violence,it however has attracted various investments from banks to retail stores due to its raising population.
The proprietors have sited challenges in operation cost and location in citing space and rent.Through their decades of experience and through the County Government,they have been able to acquire licence and receive goodwill from other local leaders.
Currently they have 20 employees comprising of locals and former Nakumatt employees.In addition to that they are planing to expand to Kisumu’s Central Business District as well as expand beyond the county.
The Supermarket will officially open its doors on January 26th but the date could change depending on the availability of guests they have invited.The supermarket faces stiff competion from established players like Tuskys,Naivas,Tumaini,Choppies and Khetia’s.
