Shalom Hospital in Machakos County has been shut down by the County Government after reporting three COVID-19 deaths.
Revealing the details was Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua who said he arrived at teh decision following consultation by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council.
“Last night, my Government, after consultations with the Kenya Medical practitioners & Dentists Council & the Director General of Health, SEALED off Shalom Hospital in Athi River following deaths of some patients due to COVID-19.” Said Governor Alfred Mutua.

At the moment, the process of testing and screening patients and staff at the facility continue pending further direction by health officials.
Residents have been urged to exercise patience until when the situation is contained and the hospital confirmed to be safe.
“The process of screening and testing for covid -19 imay take several days and has already started. Further decisions will be undertaken according to evaluation of the relevant agencies involved in the provision of health care and combating of Covid-19.
I urge all Wananchi to be patient as we ensure all health facilities are safe so as to avoid hospital based infections that were witnessed in places like New York and several Italian cities.”
The Ministry of Health confirmed the same saying they have placed 125 inpatients under quarantine.
Health personnel have already been deployed at the facility with protective gears to ensure that their welfare is taken care of.
“Shalom Hospital has not been closed, but has been placed under quarantine the status of the 125 inpatients.
Medical personnel are working on shift basis with the proper protective gear to ensure that the patients are well taken care of.”
