Sierra Leone fans attack player after missing penalty

Angry Sierra Leone fans have attacked the house of team captain Umaru Bangura after failing to convert a decisive penalty.

Sierra Leone who was playing against Liberia was awarded a crucial penalty that could have taken them through to the World Cup qualifiers in 2020.

Being the captain of the team Banguru failed to convert from the spot as his country lost to Liberia on a 3-2 aggregate.

Angry fans attacked the player who also turned their anger to Red Cross personnel who come to the defense of the captain.

Four volunteers of Red Cross were hurt in the process as the ambulance stoned breaking its windows.

The attack did not end there as some took to his house in Freetown where they broke the windows sending fear across African footballers.

Speaking following the attacks, Umaru Bangura said he has been living in fear and that he is pleading for their forgiveness.

At the moment he admits to having the fear of even stepping outside his house as he does not know if they are still upset with him.

Several people have condemned the incident saying that such behaviors should be dealt with according before it turns out to be the norms.

They further termed football as a game of chance and that footballers should not be intimidated by fans.
