Ksh 540,000 Sim Swap fraud suspect arrested in Molo

A fraud suspect has been arrested in Molo by detectives after he stole Ksh 540,000 from unsuspecting victim.

The suspect who has been identified as Harun Kigera is said to have stole the sum of money by swapping the Airtel line of the victim.

Harun Kigera a fraud Suspect who Stole Ksh. 540,000 from the Bank Acc of an unsuspecting victim after swapping his Airtel line was yesterday arrested at Molo, Nakuru County following an operation by @DCI_Kenya Criminal Intelligence Bureau Detectives.”

During the online robbery, the victim is reported to have been joined by two men and a lady in hotel in Eldoret.

The lady then requested the victim to send her Ksh 2000 and in return gave him the money in cash before they left leaving the victim behind.

It was until the following morning that the victim realized Ksh 540,000 was missing from his account.

Ksh 400,000 had been transferred to various phone numbers while Ksh 140,000 had been sent to the suspects number.

Detectives suspect the victims password was mastered as he transferred the money before they did a sim swap.

Members of the public have been warned against engaging in online transactions in exchange of cash.

“The DCI takes this opportunity to warn Members of the Public against this kind of Fraud where people are being duped into online transactions in exchange for cash money, & thereby innocently revealing their PIN & Phone Numbers which enable the fraudsters to swap their lines.”
