Smuggled milk unfit for human consumption destroyed

Thousands of litres of smuggled milk and milk products have on Friday been destroyed as per the court orders issued in favor of the Ministry of health.

The products were undertaken under testing to determine their level of safety before some were handed back to the companies.

“Smuggled Milk & milk products seized early this year by DCI Kenya Detectives and which upon testing by various specialized bodies were found to be unfit for human consumption were yesterday & today destroyed following a court order to the Ministry of Health and subsequent including representatives from the National Public Health, Nairobi Water & Sewerage Co., directors of both companies & DCI Kenya Officers.

Upon testing, some of the seized products that had been found fit for consumption were released back to the companies for distribution.”

Fresh milk, Ghee and yogurt from top companies including Lato Dairies, Musty Distribution Kenya Ltd and Dodla Dairy were destroyed under the supervision of multi agency.

“The over 77,772L of fresh milk, 2,760L of yogurt & 772L of Ghee impounded from both Musty Distribution Kenya Ltd branded Lato Dairies & Dodla Dairy Kenya Ltd branded Top Dairies were destroyed under the supervision of multi-agency teams.”

Companies and indivifuals selling such products unfit or poisonous to humans have been placed under notice that they will be fished out and dealt as per the law.

“The DCI warns those hell-bent on supplying products that are poisonous and/or unfit for human consumption out of sheer greed for money, that no effort will be spared in tracking them down and subjecting them to the full force of the law.”
