Sonko appears in court, denies graft charges

Governor Mike Sonko has on Monday denied graft allegation charges as he appeared before the Milimani Law courts.

It was a quiet affair as the Governor was brought in from the Integrity Centre to answer to graft charges totaling to Ksh 357 million.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, the prosecution team called on the court to deny the Governor bail as describing him as a flight risk.

The prosecution team further went forward to say Sonko has two pending arrest warrants with one issued in Mombasa.

Representing the Nairobi Governor was Senators Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, Kipchumba Murkomen, Nelson Havi, Cecil Miller, Alphonse Mutinda, Daniel Maanzo, and Harrison Kinyanjui.

Security was beefed up around the court as zero protests were recorded on Monday.

On Sunday, Sonko took to social media to urge his followers to maintain peace ahead of his day with the court.
