Tottenham Hotspur has on Sunday suffered a 2-1 loss away to Watford in what was an unexpected result of the day. Spurs had been backed as the winners of the game.
Both Spurs and Watford began the match with 100 percent record but it was Craig Cathcart’s header that brought the game back to life.
Watford’s midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure netted into his own net to give Spurs the lead in the 53rd minute.
Captain Troy Deeney equalized minutes later for Watford giving Tottenham an uphill task to win the match.
Watford’s win takes them to the top of the league together with Liverpool and Chelsea who are number one and two respectively.
The three league leaders are separated on goal difference with Liverpool leading with 8, Chelsea 7 and Watford 6.
In the first 20 minutes, Dele Ali came close to opening the score when his looping header was cleared by Deeney of Watford.
Both teams went into the break goalless despite clear scoring chances from England forward Harry Kane.
The home team went a goal down after the break after Doucoure failed to clear the ball but sent it to his own net.
Deeney equalized in the 69th minute after they were rewarded a corner after Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld diverted the ball on top of the crossbar.
In the 76th minute, a well taken set-piece saw the home team take the lead after Cathcart netted a powerful header past Spurs goalkeeper.
The win gives Watford the best Premier League start as the season continues.
In other results, Manchester United won 2-0 away to Burnley despite Marcus Rashford being sent off in the 71st minute.
Last week the Red Devils suffered a shocking three nil loss away to Tottenham, a loss that left coach Jose Mourinho angry during a press conference.
Machester United currently lies behind Arsenal on goal difference but tie on points. It’s the second loss for Manchester United with first one being a 3-2 loss to Burnley.
