Student beaten to death by school prefect over a bible

A form three student from St. Joseph Nyabigena Secondary School in Kisii County has been beaten to death by a school prefect.

The student was beaten by the form four prefect after he caught him reading the bible at 7 am on Tuesday morning.

An argument is said to have started between the student and the prefect before he was slapped and kicked several times on the stomach.

The victim was rushed to Tabaka Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A section of the teachers have accused the school management of giving too much power to student leaders.

Students from the school are also said to have boycotted their lunch protesting the death of the student as they called for justice.

Several parents streamed into the school as they complained at how many times they have raised the issue of prefects assaulting fellow students but to no avail.

The head teacher of the school is said to have convened a quick assemble following the incident as he urged the students to remain calm.

Investigations have already begun into the killing of the student. Teachers have been questioned over the incident.
