In Tanzania insulting a president was made a criminal office under cyber-crimes laws of 2015 which were passed before President John Magufuli came into office.

Tundu Lissu was shot several times in September by unknown gunmen and has been receiving treatment since then.

Tundu Lissu has been regarded as a serious critic of President Magufuli’s government.
