Telecommunication giants sued over data expiry

Telecommunication giants Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom have been sued by a city lawyer over data expiry.

Lawyer Adrian Kamotho has requested the three Telecommunication companies to allow users to use their data without expiring.

Kamotho further requests that the data should be allowed to be transferred to another person by the owner.

In addition to that, the users should be allowed to have their data rollover to the next month as long as their sim cards are active and being topped up.

The case presented before the Communications and Multimedia Appeal Tribunal follows that of Ghana that saw the scrapping off of the data expiry period.

South Africa also enacted a rule that allows subscribers to roll over their data to the next month without incurring any additional cost.
