Two women and one man were on Sunday arrested in Kirinyaga County after they posed as Airtel employee only to defraud their victim.
Beth Mbithe, 54 raised an alarm after learning she had been defrauded Ksh 70,000 by the three before they were roughed up by angry neighbours.
The Sunday incident is reported to have happened when the three approached Beth in the pretense that they will issue her with the new generation sim cards.

“3 suspects have been arrested at Baricho Trading Centre in Kirinyaga after they attempted to mischievously withdraw Sh. 70,000 from a 54-year old woman’s mobile wallet while posing as Airtel employees on official duty to issue “new generation sim-cards
The trio; Benson Waigwa Macharia 38, Mercy Mukami, 29, and Caroline Wanjiru,20 are all said to be from Thika.” said Thika Town Today
They were then welcomed inside since it was drizzling outside. They then took vital information from their victim and withdrew the said amount on the spot.
Samuel Munene, the son to Beth realized what had happened as he calmly walked out of the house, locked them inside as he headed to Baricho Police station to report the incident.
Angry neigbours roughed up the three who were taken to the police station after producing Ksh 20,000.
