The mob confused him with a greedy individual taking advantage of the pandemic to extort innocent Kenyans.

He was beaten seriously before officers responding to the incident saved him only to find out that he was one of them.

Images making rounds online show the cop lying in a pool of blood next to a shop in pain and helpless.

At the moment he has been admitted and has been identified as 31-year-old Gerald Sumba attached to Tononoka police station.

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai condemned the incident promising to take action on those found guilty of the crime.

“I will not condone any attack on officers discharging their rightful mandate and I condemn this vehemently.”
