The government has on Monday made it clear that beginning February 1st vehicles will not be allowed with the Nairobi CBD on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Making the announcement was Transport Principal Secretary Paul Maringa who said that the two days will be set aside for the government to test the new BRT system.
Police vehicles, Emergency vehicles and Individual on bicycles will be allowed in the CBD during those two days.
Individuals with private vehicles have been advised to use public means as they too will be affected during the two days.
Matuatu have been advised to use the bus terminus set aside for them. Hawkers will however be allowed to occupy the parking spaces during the two days.
The BRT system is part of the government plan to reduce the heavy traffic within the city with plans already in play to phase out the 14 seater matatus.
Once in action, the BRT buses will use the designated lanes marked as BRT only to make it easy to transport passengers from the city very fast.
