Wayne Rooney scores first MLS goal

Wayne Rooney scores his first MLS goal for his new club helping DC United beat Colorado Rapids 2-1 on Saturday night.

The 32 year old opened the scoring in the 33rd minute after picking a pass from Luciano Acosta before slipping it in between the legs of Tim Howard into the net.

Wayne Rooney who ranks second with 208 goals in the premier league saw his club extend Rapids winless streak to five games.

Kellyn Acosta of Colorado made it 1-1 after chipping the ball past DC goalkeeper David Ousted and near the post in the 82nd minute.

An own goal in the 90th minute sealed DC United’s second win since May 19th when Ulises Segura’s cross deflected off Nick Jackson of Colorado and into the net.

In other results Atlanta DC beat Impact 2-1 with Josef Martinez scoring twice his 23rd and 24th goals In MLS.

Martinez is three goals away to joining the 27 goals club that is currently held by three players.

Atlanta opened there goal account in the 33rd minute after Hector Villalba won the ball in the right flank, crossed it across before Martinez heading it past the crossbar.

The game was stopped following a heavy down pour forcing fans scamper for shelter under the grass stands before resuming after 75 minutes.

When play resumed, Martinez scored his second following a counter attack and stealing the ball from Jukka Raitala who stopped the ball on the goal line.
