West Pokot landslides: 22 bodies retrieved

22 bodies have been retrieved as rescue missions continue in West Pokot.

The death toll is also reported to have increased from 37 to 43 as various organizations have stepped in to help.

A mother managed to rescue her child when the grounds covered her house. Two children are still trapped in the house.

The major challenge rising at the moment is the availability of space at Kapenguria hospital mortuary.

The facility has in the meantime communicated with Kitale Hospital to assist reserve some of the bodies.

Speaking on Sunday was a doctor at Kapenguria Hospital who confirmed to have discharged many of the affected people.

The road system between Kitale and Lodwar has been cleared but most parts have been ripped off.

At the same time, landslides have also been reported in parts of Taita Taveta area.

It is not clear how many people have been rendered homeless or affected by the heavy rains being recorded in most parts of the country.
