Why the US Embassy will only accept old currency notes

The US Embassy in Kenya has explained as to why they are yet to accept the new banknotes introduced by the Central Bank of Kenya.

They confirm to be aware that the Government has plans of withdrawing the old currency from circulation come October 1st 2019.

“The Govt of Kenya has introduced new currency with plans for withdrawing all old currency from circulation by Oct 1, 2019. We are currently developing procedures to accept the new Kenyan shillings.”

Until the new procedures are in place, applicants will only be allowed to pay for the services via the previous currency or alternatively pay via a credit card.

“Until these procedures are in place, consular applicants will only be able to pay for services using the previous Kenyan shillings. You may also continue to pay by credit card. “ Said the US Embassy in Kenya
