Wiper challenges IEBC decision blocking Sonko’s clearance

Wiper has filed a case before the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission(IEBC) dispute tribunal challenging their decision in regard to their candidate Mike Sonko.

Led by party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, the party challenged a decision by the commission blocking the former Nairobi Governor from vying for the Mombasa seat.

Giving reference to a similar situation in regard to Sirisia MP John Walukhe, Wiper reminded the commission that the MP seeking re-election still has a pending court case and was cleared by the same commission.

They further claimed that the situation with their candidate is similar as his case is before the Supreme Court thus it will be unfair to block him from contesting for the Mombasa governor seat come August 2022.

“Earlier this morning, I accompanied Governor Mike Sonko as he and our The Wiper Party sought to overturn an injustice. We believe in the age-old dictum of “presumption of innocence”. We have refused to be “unheard”. Let justice prevail.” Said Kalonzo

IEBC had earlier blocked the former Governor from contesting given that he was impeached from his seat in Nairobi thus could not hold any public office position for that matter.
