Women representative Fatuma Gedi testifies against MP

Fatuma Gedi, the Wajir women representative has today appeared before a court to testify against Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim.

Rashid Kassim is accused of assaulting Fatuma Gedi back in June outside the parliament building an incident that left the women representative bleeding.

She said that the MP called her a liar and very stupid before punching her twice in the jaw and neck, an incident that was witnessed by Homabay women rep Gladys Wanga.

Gedi who is also a member of the Budget Committee was accused of failing to allocate any fund to his county.

She tried to explain that a sum of Ksh 100 million had been allocated as per the requirement, something that fell on deaf ears.

It was at that point that he referred to her as a liar, stupid and later causing the assault.

A statement was recorded at Parliament Police Station before she was taken in for treatment at Karen Hospital

The incident caused protests within parliament as female leaders called for the immediate arrest of the MP.

They also blamed Majority leader Aden Duale for not standing for the women.

As a mother and a wife, she described the event as a disappointing one that no other woman or female leader should go through.

All she is calling for is justice
