Cop in deadly twin shooting incident in Uasin Gishu detained for 10 days

An Eldoret court has approved the detention of a police officer accused of shooting his girlfriend and another man in Uasin Gishu for ten days.

The police officer identified as Erick Kirui will aso undergo medical examination at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital as directed by Senior principal magistrate Onkoba Mogire.

“I direct that he be returned to court on July 14, for the mention of the case,”  said the judge

An application by the accused lawyer to grant him bail was rejected by the court as the police pleaded to have him detained for 14 days in order to complete investigation into the incident.

According to prosecution, the suspect is a flight risk and that investigations are yet to be completed.

Erick is accused of shooting his girlfriend Carolyne Malakwen and Ignatius Kipchumba inside a pub in Jua Kali are on 26th June.

Prosecution team further told the court that even though he has the right to be granted bail, the charges levelled against him are serious.

“The court must look at the gravity of the matter before making a decision on bail.” said prosecution.
