DCI on the spot over the arrest of human rights activists

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has come under heavy criticism following the arrest of three individuals believed to be human rights activists.

Through a report, DCI has confirmed that the three are believed to be masterminds of the June 25th protests that rocked the country.

The statement has however been dismissed by human rights activists who termed it as a clear sign of labelling them criminals.

The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has also dismissed the allegations accusing the agency of levelling trumped-up charges against the three as they called for their unconditional release.

“These charges are not only baseless, but they also represent a deliberate distortion of the truth.

The three comrades are well-known human rights defenders regionally recognized for their integration of music and art into movement building as well as consistent solidarity with the oppressed as key pillars of their organizing.”said KHRC

According to DCI, the June 25th protest were well coordinated from social media with the intention of causing chaos and promote theft of public property.

They also accused the organizers of trying to destabilize national security and going against the constitution right to demonstrate and picket.
