The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved murder charges against police constable Klinzy Barasa Masinde following the death of mask vender Boniface Kariuki.
The 32-year-old appeared before Justice Kanyi Kimondo of the Milimani High Court where the matter was heard.

Klinzy is accused of shooting Boniface in the head on 17th June 2025 and later succumbed to the injuries at Kenyatta Hospital.
The Judge has since order his remand at Nairobi Remand Prison at taken for mental assessment before he stands trial for murder.
“The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved a murder charge against a police officer who allegedly murdered a mask vendor in Nairobi CBD.
A 32-year-old police constable, Klinzy Barasa Masinde, appeared before Justice Kanyi Kimondo in Milimani High Court.
He is alleged to have shot Boniface Kariuki on the 17th of June 2025 outside Imenti House, who later succumbed to the injuries at Kenyatta Hospital.
Justice Kimondo directed that the suspect be remanded at Nairobi Remand Prison and undergo mental assessment before he is charged with murder.
The suspect is expected to be presented to court on 28th July 2025 for plea taking.” said the DPP
