Filmmakers linked to BBC documentary released

The government has bowed downed to pressure releasing four filmmakers linked to BBC documentary Blood Parliament.

The four include Nicholas Wambugu, Brian Adagala, Mark Denver Karubiu, and Christopher Wamae.

Confirming the news was the Kenya Film and Television Professionals Association (KFPTA) chairperson Ezekiel Onyango who said that their equipment were seized during the operation.

“We have been informed that they are facing charges related to publishing false information and cyberbullying, and we call on the relevant authorities to provide full transparency regarding these charges and the conditions under which the filmmakers are being held.

The Act, particularly Section 23, criminalizes false publication and has previously come under fire from digital rights groups for being vague and open to abuse.” he said

Their arrest sparked public outrage among Kenyans who questioned the government especially after the recent cases of abductions.

The documentary was forced to discontinue over what they said was pressure from the relevant authorities.

The government condemned the documentary saying that they were never approached for their side of the story before it went on air.
