IDF also confirmed the attack on Anas al-Sharif, accusing him of having ‘served as the head of a terrorist cell in Hamas ‘
Preliminary reports had put the number of Al Jazeera staff who had died at four before the broadcaster revised the number to five. A total of seven people died after the attack.
Israel has been clear since the beginning of the war that it was against international journalists filming what is happening on the ground. This has forced many international media companies to rely on local reporters for coverage.
Before meeting his death, 28-year-old al-Sharif had appeared on his X account, confirming heavy bombardment within Gaza City. What transpired afterwards was shared by his friend.
IDF also had accused al-Sharif of being ‘responsible for advancing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops.’
