Four senior University of Nairobi officials arrested by EACC detectives

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested four senior University of Nairobi officials over the recruitment of  Daniel Brian Ouma Okeyo as Acting Chief Operations Officer.

Those arrested include the university Chairperson Prof. Amukowa Anangwe, Daniel Brian Ouma, Dr. Ahmed Sheikh Abdullahi and Carren Kerubo Omwenga.

The four are set to face charges of abuse in the appointment of Brian Ouma as the court had forbidden such a move through a judgement delivered on 8th April, 2024.

According to EACC, the four did not only break the law but also went against the council when hen UoN Vice Chancellor Stephen Kiama declined his appointment to the facility.

The Chairperson Prof. Amukowa Anangwe was arrested at the Kisumu International Airport and airlifted to Nairobi where he underwent interrogation at he integrity centre.

Ouma currently faces the offense of public property valued at over Ksh 32 million, a salary that he earned between the year 2015 and 2025. He also faces the charges of forging academic documents.

The news comes at a time when EACC issued an advise to the university warning them against appointing Brian Ouma.

In July, the university had appointed him as the Acting COO whose responsibility included overseeing all administrative non-academic departments and managing the day-to-day operations of the varsity.

The appointment was later revoked by EACC putting the officials on notice over his appoitment.

“The tenure of Brian Ouma as acting chief operations officer at the University of Nairobi is irregular. The Bachelor of Philosophy degree certificate from Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, Italy, which Ouma used to secure employment at the university, is not recognised in Kenya,” said EACC
