Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga is on the spot over his remarks directed towards President William Ruto and mentioning former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a function and in his mother tongue, the Governor accused the Head of State of favoring Nyanza recently, following his handshake with the late Prime Minister.
“President Ruto has been favoring the people of Nyanza with development projects, but God has done us (the people of Mt. Kenya) justice by taking Raila Odinga away,” he said

The statement has received condemnation from various leaders allied to the President, who have accused the Nyeri Governor of fueling ethnicity and division in the country.
“Ethnic profiling is unacceptable — more so when it comes from elected leaders. For Governor Mutahi Kahiga to stoke division while the nation mourns a hero is not just irresponsible, it’s dangerous. He must be held accountable,” said Millicent Omanga.
“Governor Mutahi Kahiga, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – why are you pushing one community against the wall when the country is yet to come to terms with the death of Baba Raila and stirring tribal tensions? Irresponsible and reckless statement from a leader. Shame on you!!” said Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi.
“Shame on you, Gov Mutahi Kahiga. I consider you a friend, but Nyeri very embarrased by your juvenile, immature, irresponsible, irrational, absurd, outrageous, obnoxious, heartless, insane, diabolical speech on the passing on of my friend Shujaa Raila Odinga. Shut Up! Bure kabisa!” said Kabando wa Kabando
