High Court quashes President Ruto’s IEBC appoitments

The High Court has on Thursday quashed the appointment of the Chairperson and Commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) by President William Ruto.

Justices Roselyne Aburili, John Chigiti, and Bahati Mwamuye  noted the appointment violeted a previous court order issued on May 29th barring the government from gazzetting the appoitments until when a case filed in court is heard and determined.

“The Petition dated 13th May 2025 is hereby found to be without merit and is dismissed.

Gazette Notice No. 7724 appointing the 1st Interested Party as IEBC Chairperson and Gazette Notice No. 7725 appointing the 2nd to 7th Interested Parties as Commissioners are hereby quashed for having been published in contravention of the Court’s interim conservatory orders.” read the court decisison.

The Judges continued by saying that the nullification only challenged the timing pf the appoitments and not the legality behind it.

President William Ruto will be expected to reconside the timing of the appoitments.
