The steep loss has been attributed to a decline in the number of passengers between January and June. Kenya Airways has recorded a 14 percent decline in the number of passengers it has carried from 2.54 million in 2024 to 2.2 million in 2025.
The airline revealed that the loss was attributed to three of their Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners being out of service as they required maintainance.
KQ CEO Allan Kilavuka noted that one of the planes had resumed services in July and that they working on restoring full operations by next year.
The airline is also planning to raise Ksh 64.5 billion capital in order to expand its operations. This will be made possible if they get the board approval first and then a funding source.
