KMPDU agrees to fully withdraw services in Bungoma and Kakamega

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has unanimously agreed to withdraw services in Bungoma and Kakamega Counties.

The decision follows an AGM held for the Western Branch and attended by the union’s Secretary General Dr. Dhavji Atella.

“KMPDU Western Branch AGM: A spirited, action-driven meeting has doctors in Busia and Vihiga celebrating key wins, including full promotions and a transition to permanent and pensionable terms.” said KMPDU

At the same time, the union doctors in Kakamega have not had their issues as discussed in the CBA implemented despite undertaking a 20 days strike.

“BUT, serious concerns remain. Bungoma doctors still await resolutions, and Kakamega is in crisis. Doctors there have been on strike for over 20 days, no promotions in more than 7 years, no medical cover, & locum doctors earning less than a third of CBA-stipulated rate (50K).

Despite the absence of a County Public Service Board and leadership’s refusal to negotiate, doctors stand united. The AGM has resolved to fully withdraw services until justice is delivered.

As we move toward the Annual Delegates Conference, counties are on notice. All outstanding 2024 RTWF and CBA issues must be resolved. We do not retreat nor surrender until we win for ALL doctors and for healthcare.” said KMPDU
