NPS confirms the number of fatalities from Saba Saba protests

The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed that 11 people have on Monday passed away due to Saba Saba protests.

They continued by placing the number of civilian injuries at 47 and those of police officers at 52.

“The National Police Service wishes to update the public following today’s noms conducted the majority of Kenyans for being law-abiding and heeding the determined to engage in acts of lawlessness that involved multiple criminal acts.

Regrettably, preliminary reports indicate fatalities, injuries, damage to property and vehicles, and several incidents of looting of commercial premises.
Matters arising include: 1. Number of deaths – 11, 2. Number of police officers injured – 52, 3. Number of civilians injured – 47, 4. Damaged police vehicles – 12, 5. Damaged civilian vehicles – 4.” they said
The however confirmed that each of the cases will undergo further investigation in accordance with the law.
“Each incident will be subject to further investigation in accordance with the law with the intent to ensure that justice is served.
The NPS commends its officers for demonstrating exceptional restraint amid the protests and share information regarding the protests and encourage anyone with information about who inflicted the injuries or deaths to come forward.” they said
