Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has called on police action to arrest those behind the Saba Saba attack of Kitengela Sub-County Hospital.
Speaking on Wednesday, the Governor said that those behind the attack were different from those who held a peaceful protest on that day.
“The attackers differ from those protesters who were protesting to get their voices heard and were picketing in accordance with the law,” he said
He continued by saying that those behind the attack were not from the county and that they will work with the police to ensure that arrests are made.
“We shall be partnering with the police to ensure individuals and government property are protected. Those involved were not people from Kajiado; they were from outside.
They were young boys; some looked like they used drugs. Meaning the only thing they would do is violence, and with that, we shall not allow destruction of property and businesses,” he continued
The July 7th incident saw the goons interrupt an ongoing C-section at the facility before lighting fire outside it.
The incident has since been condemned by the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society (KOGS) who said that hospitals are restricted areas.
“We call upon both the Government of Kenya and the National Police Service to unequivocally respect the sanctity of medical institutions and to ensure that hospitals remain protected zones, even during times of civil unrest. Healthcare providers are not political actors; they are guardians of life.” they said
