Police officers from Laare Police Station have arrested six men linked to the December 1st gang rape incident in Meru.
The authorities acted swiftly after receiving a distress call from members of the public. The caller reported that a woman was being gang raped during a traditional circumcision procession.
Upon reaching the scene, officers found the victim in deep distress. They immediately escorted her to Nyambene Hospital, where she received urgent medical care.
“On that day, we received a distress call about a young woman in grave danger. She faced a horrific attack during a circumcision procession. Our officers responded without delay,” said the DCI.
The victim’s clothes were torn, and her emotional trauma was evident. The police ensured she received prompt attention and comfort.
Determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, the officers launched a thorough manhunt. Using forensic leads, they conducted targeted raids in Irinde, Lubwa, and Kiarama.
As a result, the police apprehended six suspects: Dennis Mwirigi, Ismael Gichuge, Elijah Muriki, Isaac Ntomauta, Joseph Marete, and Phineas Mutali.
These six join three others who had been arrested earlier. The authorities are processing all suspects as they await a court date.
