Police dismiss claims Juja MP was abducted, claim he went into hiding

The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed claims that Juja MP George Koimburi had been abducted but claim that the legislator went into hiding after learning of arrest.

The National Police Service were speaking in response to a video circulating on social media revealing the legislator lying inside a plantation in Kiambu County.

According to NPS, the MP was aware that the DPP had approved his arrest and was under investigation over land fraud.

“The MP, having been fully aware of police intentions to arrest him, evaded a dragnet and duped officers by escaping on a motorcycle with his private security and switched off his mobile phone,” said NPS

It has since been confirmed that the driver of the MP at the time of his disappearance has recorded a statement with the police. The MP had at the time was out of reach.

Investigations into the video is ongoing with the DCI calling on anyone with information to come forward.

“The National Police Service urges anyone with information regarding the incident shown in the video to come forward and assist with the investigation,” they said

Addressing the media was former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who said that he had suffered soft tissue injuries and that dangerous chemicals had been used on him affecting his voice.
