A police officer has on Wednesday been shot dead by an armed assailant who fled the scene in Thika West, Kiambu County.
The police officer identified as Police Constable Bernard Koome was in the company of another police officer on patrol when they noticed a suspicious motorcycle in the area.
The suspect upon seeing the police fled the scene on foot as he fired carelessly so as to scare off the police. Unluckily one of the bullets landed on Bernard’s neck.
“In the process, he shot PC Bernard Koome in the neck. Officers pursued the suspect, who continued firing into the air while fleeing,” read the police report
Efforts to rush the police to Thika for treatment failed as he was pronounced dead on arrival. A manhunt of the suspect is still ongoing.
