President William Ruto has on Wednesday questioned a ruling by Justice Lawrence Mugambi in regard to erecting roadblocks during protests.
According to the High Court Judge, the Inspector General of Police is hereby not allowed to erect roadblocks to stop people from accessing the Nairobi CBD.
The head of State questioned the implication the ruling has including real danger it now poses on people’s lives and protecting properties.

“Nimeona ati leo ato kuna mtu kortini amesema Inspector General of Police asiweke roadblock, ati asitumie water cannon, asitumie teargas kulinda mali na maisha ya Wakenya wengine.
Huyo anasema hivyo, lakini yeye mwenyewe anachungwa na polisi… gari yake inaongozwa na askari. Alafu anasema mali ya wananchi wengine haina maana.” he said
On Monday, the police had erected the roadblocks to stop any efforts by protesters from accessing the CBD, something that was against the law on matters demonstration and picketing.
Katiba Institute, the people behind the case at the High court termed the move as an infringement of people’s right.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi noted that there was a reason why the police were in possession of teargas and water cannons which were meant to protect lives.
“There is a reason why there is a roadblock. There is a reason why police have tear gas. There is a reason why water cannons are there; they are supposed to protect the lives and property of Kenyans when they are in danger.” he said
