President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have moved in to save Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja from a planned impeachment by Nairobi MCAs.
Both UDA and ODM held separate meetings on Tuesday, with ODM MCAs confirming that they will halt the process for 30 days after talks with their party leader.
“Tumefanya mkutano na MCAs wa Azimio na tumekubaliana hiyo impeachment motion itupiliwe mbali ili viongozi wa Nairobi wakae chini wafanye kazi pamoja kwa wananchi wa Nairobi…,” said George Aladwa.

Nairobi MCAs initiate plan to impeach Governor Johnson Sakaja
UDA MCAs were summoned to State House, where they were told to work with Governor Johnson Sakaja. The meeting follows complaints by the county representatives that Sakaja had failed to address key issues affecting the capital.
Before the meetings, the MCAs had gathered enough signatures to impeach the Governor, whom they accused of sidelining them on matters of development.
They further raised questions as to how the Ward Development Fund had been utilised, as well as the allocation of bursaries.
According to Governor Johnson Sakaja, each ward received their fair share of 715.8 million in the 2022/2023 financial period, Ksh.925.6 million in the 2023/2024 financial year and Ksh.889 million in the 2024/2025 financial year.
