South Africa’s ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, has been found near a four-star hotel in Paris, as revealed by French officials.
Nathi’s death came a day after his wife had reported him missing after receiving a  “worrying message from him,” as revealed by the office of the Paris prosecutor.
Authorities were forced to break the hotel’s security window on the 2nd floor, which he was occupying.

His death remains a mystery as of now, even though an investigation has been launched, with the scene of the incident set to be visited by the magistrate.
At the time of his death, Mthethwa was a high-ranking member of the African National Congress, a party that had been in power since 1994 under then President Nelson Mandela.
Other positions that he has held include the arts and culture minister before becoming an ambassador in 2023, a position he held until his death.
Being a close ally of former President Jacob Zuma, he was also under probe for high-level corruption during Zuma s tenure in office.
“I have no doubt that his passing is not only a national loss but is also felt within the international diplomatic community,” said South Africa Foreign minister.
