A Sunday morning inferno at Gikomba market has left traders counting losses after it razed down property of unknown value.
Some of the traders revealed that the fire started at around 2 am and efforts to contain it failed prompting them to call the Nairobi County emergency response team for assistance.

“There is a mother of three who arrived here and collapsed. I had a stock of over Ksh.100,000 it’s all gone. Some have lost property worth Ksh.600,000 and others Ksh.4 million.
We would want to have a water tank close to us and also better security. We have a police station just a stone’s throw away and they should be able to beef up security.” said a trader who spoke to Citizen TV
Some of the traders cited foul play claiming that the cause of the fire is suspicious as they also blamed the county for delays in assisting them to put it off.
“Most of us secure loans to purchase our goods. We need intervention from our leaders. Like right now, I have nothing left,” said another trader
