Two multinational companies charged with alleged sale of toxic sanitary and baby products

Kenyan consumers have taken legal action to charge two multinational companies with the alleged sale of toxic sanitary and baby products.

According to consumers, the products contain petroleum oil, but instead, they advertise that they are 100 percent cotton or pure cotton.

Procter & Gamble (producers of Always and Pampers) and Kimberly-Clark (producers of Kotex and Huggies) have been charged with violating consumer rights, public health, and environmental standards.

They continued by saying that the products expose women and children to toxic materials, contrary to their advertisements. The court has since issued orders blocking further sale of the products until the matter is heard.

More than 2,800 consumers also want the court to instruct the companies to produce the composition of the materials used to manufacture the items.

“The continued sale, use, and advertisement of toxic sanitary and infant products jeopardize millions of women and children, degrade the environment, and undermine the very essence of the constitutional guarantees to human dignity,” they said
