The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has recommended corruption charges against Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok and former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati.
According to DPP, Governor Barchok received Ksh2,750,500 from companies trading with the county between 2019/2020 and 2024/2025.
“EACC recommended charges against Barchok and Evans Kipkoech Korir of Chemasus Construction Limited for conflict of interest under section 42(3) with 48 of ACECA, money laundering under 3(b) with 16(1) of POCAMLA, acquisition of crime proceeds under 4 with 16 of POCAMLA, and unlawful public property acquisition under 45(1)(a) with 48 of ACECA.

At the same time, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati is accused of embezzling Ksh 70,205,882 through private companies.
“EACC recommended charges against 18 individuals including Maurice Wabwile Marango, Alex Musonye Odanga, Michael Simiyu Wangamati, and others for conflict of interest.
ODPP directed charges against Wangamati for conflict of interest, and multiple others including Michael Wangamati, Nicholas Wangamati, Edward Barasa Wangamati for acquisition of crime proceeds and fraudulent.
Additional charges include Edward Maaya Makhanu, Sandra Soita Nasambu, Bramwel Wafula Mukenye, and others for fraudulent practices in procurement proceedings.” said ODPP
At the same time, Kiambu Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi is accused of awarding a Ksh 230 million tender to M/s Filtronic International Limited in the financial year 2022/2023.
“ODPP received EACC inquiry on July 24, 2025, regarding Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali’s alleged conflict in awarding tenders valued at Ksh728,842,489 to companies associated with him during FY 2017/2018 to 2023/2024.
