Gov’t confirms loss of 900 birth certificates in Kitui

The government through the Interior Ministry’s State department of Immigration has confirmed the loss of 900 birth certificates in Kitui.

The incident which was occurred at Mutomo registration office was confirmed by the acting secretary of Civil Registration Services Paul Mwangemi through local dailies on Tuesday.

According to Mwangemi, the loss involves nine booklets that holds birth certificates of serial numbers from 1502001 to 1502100; 1502101 to 1502200; 1502201 to 1502300; 1502301 to 1502400; 1502401 to 1502500; 1502501 to 1502600; 1502601 to 1502700; 1502701 to 1502800; and 1502801 to 1502900.

It is due to the loss that the government has now declared them invalid and the birth certificates stand to be cancelled.

“The Department hereby cautions the general public that the said birth certificates have been cancelled thereby rendering them invalid,” said Mwangemi

“Any person(s) who may have been issued with any certificate bearing any of the above serial numbers is advised to return it/them to the Secretary, Civil Registration Services, 4th floor, Hass Plaza, Lower Hill.” read the notice.
