Losses at Bangladesh airport after inferno exceed $1bn, say leaders

Losses incurred at the Bangladesh main airport stand in excess of $1billion as revealed by business leaders after assessing the situation.

The Saturday incident broke out in the logistics section, where clothes and other raw materials are stored, causing the losses that will paralyze businesses, according to the export associations.

The inferno that took 27 hours to extinguish disrupted airport operations, even though the matter is under investigation.

According to media reports, a total of 37 people sustained injuries as they worked to contain the inferno.

The airport is well known for handling international goods from renowned companies such as H&M and Walmart.

It also accounts for a tenth of the country’s gross domestic product generating around $40bn a year.
