President William Ruto defends SHA, says it curbs fraud

President William Ruto has defended the under fire Social Health Authority (SHA) saying that it will curb fraud unlike the defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Speaking on Tuesday during the funeral of Malava MP Malulu Injendi in Malava, Kakamega County, the Head of State noted that SHA has covered loopholes that were under NHIF and consumed almost 40 per cent of the fund.

He continued by saying that the SHA system will not be paid by the government but it will be a fee-for-service facility.

“They do not want a technology system that works because they want to continue stealing from us. The stealing is over. Move on. We are not going to give free money as was being done under NHIF to hospitals without accountability. We are only going to pay for services rendered,” he said

President William Ruto assured Kenyans that the new health system will ensure quality healthcare, something that was only preserved for the rich. He called on Kenyans to register especially residents of Kakamega County.

The news comes at a time when Kenyans and political leaders have admitted that the health system is not working even though they have been contributing to the fund.

The Auditor General also confirmed that the system is neither owned or controlled by the government begging the question who controls it and where does the contributions go to?
